Historia returns archive records, exact quotations, and the questions a historian would ask. It does not write, summarise, or conclude. The research on learning with AI points one way: when the tool does the thinking, the person learns less.
The studies: Bastani and colleagues, PNAS 2025 (a chatbot raised practice grades and lowered exam grades by 17%; a tutor that gave hints instead of answers did not); Kosmyna and colleagues, MIT Media Lab 2025, preprint (weakest brain connectivity in the chatbot group); Lee and colleagues, CHI 2025 (more trust in the AI, less critical thinking reported); Kestin and colleagues, Scientific Reports 2025 (an AI tutor built on teaching principles beat active learning).
None of these studies tested Historia. We do not claim it improves grades or critical thinking.
