Topic starters for the 2027 theme. Each one searches the public APIs of the Library of Congress, Chronicling America, the US National Archives, the Smithsonian, DPLA, the Internet Archive, the UK National Archives, Gallica, the Wellcome Collection, the Met, the Art Institute of Chicago, Old Bailey Online, OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar and DOAJ and shows the real records that exist, before a student commits to a topic.
National History Day permits AI for brainstorming topics, brainstorming keywords, and finding resources. It prohibits letting AI write any part of a project or do a student's topic analysis. Historia finds and ranks real records and refuses to write, on the server.
NHD also requires that any AI tool used is explained in the process paper and cited in the annotated bibliography as a secondary source, with the tool and the dates. Historia adds that disclosure to every bibliography it exports.
